Welcome to New Ulm, Minnesota! New Ulm has around 14,000 residents and a deep German heritage. Visitors can expect to see German monuments and eat German beers and food while in town. Located in southern Minnesota, New Ulm is close to Minneapolis, MN (1hr 30 min, 90 miles), Rochester, MN (1hr 45min, 110 miles), and Sioux Falls, SD (2hr 30min, 155 miles). New Ulm is home to several German monuments for visitors to explore. Spend time at the Hermann Monument and climb to the top for a view of the town. Listen to the bells chime at Glockenspiel and see the figurines. Learn about the area's history at the Brown County Historical Society, located in a beautiful building, and stroll to see the fountains in German Park. Finally, remember your trip with souvenirs from Domeier’s German Store.
One thing a German town needs is its German beer. Head to Schell’s Brewing to see their brewing facilities and try their German-style beers! Locals highly recommend taking a tour of this old, family-owned brewery.
New Ulm has other non-German-related activities too. Consider swimming, hiking, camping, or cross-country skiing at Flandrau State Park. Learn about music in Minnesota at the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame or appreciate the arts at The Grand Center for Arts & Culture.

For German favorites, head to Turner Hall and Kaiserhoff, and try the ribs at the latter. Relax at Morgan Creek Vineyards and Winery with a cup of wine or with a cocktail at Black Frost Distillery. Have dinner at George’s Fine Steaks & Spirits and finish the evening with ice cream from MN Eis. Maybe even try their spaghetti ice cream!
