Meredith, New Hampshire Travel Guide

Welcome to Meredith, New Hampshire!  Meredith is a sleepy lake town home to about 6,000 permanent residents.  Meredith is located on Lake Winnipesaukee, a major summer destination for locals and tourists.  The Lakes Region comprises several small towns on multiple lakes, each with its own vibe.  While most tourists visit Meredith in the summer, the winter provides premiere skiing and ice fishing.  Whether you are coming for a quiet lake vacation or hitting the slopes, Meredith, New Hampshire will have something for you!

Meredith is in central New Hampshire in the heart of the Lakes Region.  Meredith is located near several cities including Boston, MA (1hr 50min, 107 miles), Portland, ME (2hr, 83 miles), and Montreal, QC (3hr 45min, 362km).  The closest major airport is the Portsmouth International Airport

As mentioned, Meredith is a top destination in the summer due to its proximity to Lake Waukewan and Lake Winnipesaukee.  Visitors can rent boats at the Meredith Marina and Boat Center for their trip.  The Lakes Region is home to more than just water.  Being in the Appalachian Mountains, Meredith is near lots of great hiking.  Some local favorite hiking include West Rattlesnake Mountain, the great views at Mt. Major, and climbing up the fire tower at Red Hill Fire Tower Trailhead.  Here in the winter?  Hit the nearby slopes at Tenny Mountain Resort for a fun day of skiing.

For some less outdoorsy activities, be sure to hit up Funspot.  Known for their massive selection of classic arcade games, this is a great stop for the whole family!  While in town, stop by Mill Falls Marketplace for some shopping or a bite to eat, or Castle in the Clouds, a historic home with breathtaking views, as the name suggests!  Take a drive to Moulton Farm to shop their popular farm store or enjoy one of their events.  Visiting in the fall?  Be sure to get their apple cider donuts!

Speaking of food, Meredith has lots of options for a quick bite or a nice meal.  Start your day with breakfast from Sunshine and Pa’s, followed by your caffeine and pastry fix at Gusto Italian Cafe.  Grab lunch at Sub Crazy, a highly recommended spot by locals for your sub fix.  Grab some authentic Mexican food at Vida at the Lake, or enjoy year-round Thanksgiving at Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant.  Want to enjoy dinner on the lake?  Dine at Walter’s Basin or order the lobster rolls from Town Docks.  Want to enjoy some local brews?  Dine at Hermit Woods Winery and Eatery in downtown and enjoy one of their wine flights.  For burgers and beer, check out Twin Barns Brewing Company.

With so much to do, eat, and experience in Meredith, you may need a place to stay!  There are no chain hotels in town, but a few nearby include Quality Inn, Hampton Inn, and Holiday Inn.  For the inn experience, stay at Mill Falls at the Lake.  For the New England bed and breakfast experience, book a room at the Meredith Inn.  Want to experience the Lakes Region under the stars?  Camp at Harbor Hill Camping Area or Owls Landing Campground.

Considering booking a vacation in Meredith or need a whole spot to yourself?  Consider booking a Vrbo.  Here are some of our favorites: Downtown Attic for 4, Lakefront Cabin for 8, and Lakeside Cottage for 6

Meredith is a great spot for a sleepy trip.  Trying to figure out the best time to go?  Consider visiting during one of their festivals, such as the Fine Arts & Crafts Festival or the Annual Autumn Craft Festival on the Lake.  Whatever you’re into, Meredith, New Hampshire has something worth seeing.  We hope this travel guide gave you a glimpse into life in Meredith, and the Lakes Region, that can inspire a future visit.
